A few people to email

If you agree that a 250 acre lorry park is an obscene waste of £250,000,000 of public money, that it will be an environmental catastrophe and the potential emissions will risk the lives of those in close proximity, write to as many MPs, media and other influencers as you can, to appeal for their help in stopping this monstrous development which will not fix Op Stack. Remind them that it hasn’t been needed in over a year due to the smarter options already put in place since last year’s unprecedented events (almost certainly never to be repeated) – added security and fencing in Calais to stop migrant incursions, hundreds more lorry spaces at Eurotunnel and Port of Dover, plus additional cross-Channel capacity.

That doesn’t mean more shouldn’t be done.

  • Our government needs to continue to engage in sensible and constructive dialogue with the French
  • smaller lorry parks across the UK (not just in Kent) will help the very real national shortage of overnight lorry parking
  • smart technology and better highway communications should be adopted
  • the A2/M2 should be upgraded, especially as the new Thames Crossing is planned – KCC has already proposed this
  • longer term investment is needed to get more freight onto rail
